After the recent visit of the Daredevil circus to SOLAS, there is a little time to relax (well for SOLAS team) as SOLAS heads in a double farmers market and Sunday Craft market this weekend (March 4-5). Then the following week SOLAS will host 10 days of carnival based around the St. Patrick celebrations running from 10-19 March.
David Maher of SOLAS explains “the Carnival was really the outstanding event of 2022 in SOLAS, with over 3,000 people attending on St Patrick’s day. It is a real vote of confidence in us that ‘Spin City’ are back again this year for a total of 10 days. It really is the start of the summer season here at SOLAS as our spectacular food court will be back open again for the next 7 months. We are continuing to recruit new staff (solas@thegardenshop.ie) right across SOLAS in our Food, Shop and plants areas to be able to cope with expected influx over the coming months”

Food & Cosy Cafe
SOLAS as ever with have great range of healthy and hot food options as we prepare to return to our Full Summer menu from the weekend of 11 March when our outdoor food court will reopen.
SOLAS – PLANTS
The ‘Plant of the week’ is our range of Spring flowering bulbs: Crocuses, Daffodils, Irises, Narcissus, Hyacinths, Chionodoxa, Scilla and more. While autumn is the perfect time to plant spring flowering bulbs, this range of potted bulbs in flower are ideal for containers and flower beds. They are perennial plants, coming back year after year and adding splash of colour to our gardens.
SOLAS – Shop
Our Shop product of the week is our range of Seed potatoes. It’s time to start chitting your potatoes, ready for planting mid-March. For expert advise on how to do this www.thegardenshop.ie/how-to-chit-potatoes/.
John Carey of SOLAS explains “in total we stock 17 different varieties including Golden Wonders, Roosters, British Queens. Such is the demand we normally have to reserve stock 6 months advance which means once we sell out it can be hard to restock – so our advice to customers is buy early.”
